We believe in creating skincare that loves your skin and the planet. That’s why The Frankie Brand’s products will never be stored or sold in plastic packaging. Plastic packaging can leach chemicals like endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) and microplastics into your skin products, especially if they are used and stored over time and exposed to heat or light.

Microplastics are plastic particles less than 5mm in size and are commonly found in cosmetic and skin products - many of which are intentionally included in products to enhance texture or provide a shimmering effect. when applied, they penetrate the skin barrier and enter the body. Anti-wrinkle creams can deposit up to 90,000 plastic particles on the face. Scientists have estimated that adults ingest the equivalent of one credit card per week in microplastics. And the scary thing is, these are forever plastics - they never go away - they just break down in to finer particles.

Plastic can have several harmful effects on skincare products, including:

CHEMICAL LEACHING: Over time, certain chemicals from plastic containers can leach into the product, potentially altering its composition and affecting its effectiveness.

CONTAMINATION: Plastic packaging can harbor bacteria and other contaminants, leading to compromised product integrity and increased risk of skin irritation or infections.

HORMONE DISRUPTION: Some plastics contain endocrine-disrupting chemicals like parabens and phthalates, which can interfere with hormone function in the body, potentially leading to health issues such as infertility and some cancers.

SHORTENED SHELF LIFE: Plastic packaging can contribute to a shorter shelf life for skincare products due to reduced protection from light, air, and moisture, leading to degradation of active ingredients.
